Lining Your Molds With Silicone Caulk

Lining your mold with silicone caulk.Argh! Freezer paper! What a pain!

A few posts back, I blogged about the IKEA 9 Drawer Mini Chest. I have spoken to soapers that use the drawers for soap molds and they highly recommend lining your IKEA molds, and any molds for that matter, with silicone caulk. As luck would have it, there is a tutorial posted on the Soap Dish Forum on how to accomplish this. I tried it a few weeks ago using molds that my hubby made for me and it works like a charm. I’m done with freezer paper and funky foam FOREVER!

If you are not a member of the Soap Dish forum, you’ll need to register to view the tutorial. Long time Disher Bathsheba was kind enough to write this incredible tutorial, but that doesn’t mean she wants to spend the next three months answering questions about it. If you have questions regarding the tutorial, please post a new thread on the forum instead of contacting Bathsheba directly.

I came over from the Soap Making forum as I’m looking for mold ideas for my CP soaps. This was perfect timing for me.

I’m am trying to understand…using the silicone means you don’t need to have any type of liner? How do you get the soap out?

    Thanks!

Hi – thanks for visiting. The silicone makes a slick surface and the soap slides out when you turn the mold over. No liner necessary.

Really??? (said with a very high pitched voice. I can not believe this. I will have to send my readers over to you about this one!! Excellent! I never could figure out the wax paper fitting. Last time I used a garbage bag, but of course I got MAJOR creases…this is perfect. I love you!

Hey Joanna! I wish I could take credit for this but it was Bathsheba from the Soap Dish that came up with the idea and tutorial. She’s brilliant!

BTW- I read your blog all the time. Love all the soap porn and reviews. Great stuff! I am bad about commenting – but something I am working on. :)
