RSS in Plain English

I’m a web site statistics junky. I look at my stats at least once per day to see where my traffic is coming from, what people are reading and what outside links they click on. I also keep track of how many subscribers I have to my blog. I find that many of the same people come back to my site over and over again, yet less than a third of those return visitors have subscribed to my RSS feed. That made me wonder if people just don’t understand it for the valuable tool that it is.

What does this have to do with soap? Heh - nothing. But -time saved in front of the computer means more time for projects - right? (How’s that for a rationalization?) The following video from Common Craft gives a brief explanation of how RSS works and how to setup and use it. Once you’re setup and ready to go - come back and SUBSCRIBE! :)

That is SO funny! I do the VERY same thing and I call it “watching the water boil”! You are right on about feeds. I picked up a tip there that I didn’t know…use a reader. Seems Internet explorer does some reader stuff? well anyways, it’s prolly faster with the reader than I thought! Thanks Marr!

    Still RSS confused….

Buuuut. I am also obsessed with site stats. Have you ever used Feedjit? I couldn’t believe the site stats I got. Really an eye opener to see where traffic comes from, and how they found you.

I use a combination of Google Analytics and Feedburner for stats. Love them both.
